Guest Bedroom Decorating Ideas On A Budget – Are you planning to host your family soon? Freshen up your room with these simple room decorating ideas! Redecorated our room with affordable bedding, rugs, decorative tables and baskets to create an affordable bedroom makeover.
This is what our room looked like before the renovation. It wasn’t bad, but the bedding and decor looked a bit dated.
Guest Bedroom Decorating Ideas On A Budget
I wanted to freshen up this bedroom before we host family and friends in our home. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, but I wanted a big enough effect for a fresh, shiny new look!
Affordable Primary Bedroom Makeover Ideas
Replace the old comforter and throw pillows on all new bedding. I found a super comfy duvet cover, buttery soft cover and stylish pillows and blankets. I also hung a beautiful ocean canvas above the bed and added some of my favorite items to the room.
All of these new room items are from Walmart Home! I love the ocean and serene look we got with the Walmart bedding and decor. What are your favorites??
How beautiful is this new bed for the guest room? I want to take it to my room, just saying 😉 My goal was to tone down the color in the guest room and create a calmer space for my friends and family to relax.
Studies say that a calm and peaceful color palette in the bedroom helps you relax and fall asleep. For a relaxing feel in the bedroom, I look for bedding and decor in soft blues, cream ivories and crisp whites.
Guest Room Bedding: Tips For Creating A Beautiful, Cozy Bed For Your Guests!
We already had a neutral navy headboard (also from Walmart!). If you want to change the color of the headboard, dark blue goes well with many interior styles and can easily be changed to different bedroom designs. I use navy blue as a neutral color in many rooms of my house!
I added bed layers with a white chenille quilt and light faux fur.
In guest rooms, I like to arrange bedding, blankets and pillows according to each guest’s sleeping preferences. So your guests can choose how many/what kind of blankets they want to sleep with and they don’t have to come to you late at night asking for an extra duvet or pillow!
A nautical themed canvas print above the headboard is the perfect addition to your bedroom to create a relaxing atmosphere. In my house I decorate with a lot of bathroom elements, but for the guest house I hesitate to decorate in an exaggerated style. A small piece of art is a great way to add a simple touch of beach style.
Guest Room Ideas That Are Equally Welcoming And Stylish
When you’re hosting friends and family, it’s the little extras that are noticed and appreciated the most. Sometimes it’s extra toiletries in the bathroom, books or magazines on the bedside table, or a DIY skeleton that gives your guests a WIFI code! Here are some additional hospitality tips to make your guests feel welcome and at home.
Another hosting idea is to provide a small compact diffuser on your bedside table. If your guests have spent a long day traveling, a diffuser can help them relax or fall asleep if they have trouble sleeping.
This cute flower diffuser is a moisture-transporting ceramic diffuser from Better Homes & Gardens. Unlike some diffusers, it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye with its soft colors and modern design.
I also like to have a few baskets in the room to fill with extra blankets or pillowcases for new guests and family. Something about a fresh new pillow insert makes the bed so cozy and comfortable! Wicker baskets are multi-functional and can hold a variety of items such as books, bedding or your guests’ favorite snacks and toiletries.

We moved in with almost nothing but what would fit in a tiny one bedroom apartment. We had no appliances – yikes.
So in the first few weeks we had to buy essentials like a stove, fridge, washer and dryer, and then we slowly started decorating our house over the next few years.
Guest Room Ideas
When I started this blog in 2015, we were already settled, so decorating and creating warm things was the most important thing for me.
(See my FIRST trip home on the blog – sorry for the bad lighting and the “yellow” tint of my photos 🙁 I was still very “green” in the world of photography.)
Sometime last year, after I finished my craftsman renovation (if you missed it, follow the Facebook Live Tour here), I realized that the rest of the house was starting to look a little worn, old, and worse, broken by a couple of furries that shall remain nameless 😉
So after a decade in our house, I decided it was time to start updating my space. That is, choosing key areas for:

But on a LOW BUDGET, my goal is JUST TO REMODEL OUR HOME to fit our current housing needs and tastes.
Our room has changed very little since we moved in 10 years ago. Seriously – all the furniture, bedding and decorations are pretty much untouched since my first visit to the home blog.
It’s been like this for almost 10 years. Cute – sure – but a little dated.
Earlier this year I had the opportunity to work with Opposite Wall, a Canadian company that produces the most amazing and affordable modern art prints.

I decided to keep the same color palette of grays, whites and beiges while adding a few subtle touches of black for a little extra pop.
With just a few swaps and additions, our room received a subtle makeover that felt a little more modern and updated.
These pieces of art are the pièce de résistance of this room! In keeping with our familiar blend of Scandinavian farmhouse with a touch of mid-century modern, these abstract and minimalist prints were just what this serene space needed.

Budget Friendly Guest Bedroom Refresh
What’s new below?: Analog alarm clock and leather case. Lamps, a pot of artificial succulents and a metal bird were all I already had.
Also new to the room were pillows, a duvet cover and a gray cotton throw – all affordable additions from Amazon and Home Sense.
This beautiful mud cloth patterned rug was another addition to my ‘shop at home’. I love the black here.
So, after two hard weekends working on wall decorations and replacing a few key pieces of bedding and accessories, I was able to refresh our space while keeping the same happy color palette.

Just a few updates and changes gave our room a subtle facelift that gave it a fresher, more modern feel.
None of our furniture has changed – not one iota! You can freshen up a room and give it new life without spending a penny on furniture.
You don’t need to replace all sheets and bedding. Just add a duvet cover to create a whole new look.
My little secret in this bedroom? I kept the duvet cover and just bought a new duvet cover 🙂
Best Guest Bedroom Ideas To Make Your Guests Feel Delight
As I mentioned, some of the bedroom decor comes from “buying” my own house. I’ve collected a lot of nicknames over the years, so I just took items from other parts of my house and then added a few new items.
You can see how I created TWO PROJECTS for the same wall on my YouTube channel by following the link below:
You can also find some great upcycled items to freshen up your space at any thrift or thrift store! I have minimal decorations throughout the house and I love how much personality it adds to my space.
