Home Office Design Ideas 2023 – A few years ago, home offices were considered the pinnacle of luxury—something many homes didn’t have. Now, in a (nearly) post-pandemic world where more people work from home part-time or full-time, dedicated home office spaces are becoming the norm. While it’s possible to work from a bedroom or kitchen, there’s something to be said for purposeful home offices, whether in the form of an entire room or a fancy desk in an empty corner. With that in mind, we chatted with five interior designers about their biggest home office trends for 2023. From home office ideas that will increase your productivity to more comfortable workplaces, in the future you will find more than a dozen different ways to decorate. the place that works for you. For the minimalist design lover, a monochromatic home office might be best. For extras, a home office is likely to encourage happy, relaxed work. The point is that no matter what your design aesthetic is, you’re sure to find inspiration in the following designer-approved trends.
The wall may have been dying off from the peak of demand since the 70s and 80s, but in 2023, it is expected to rise again. “Wallpaper can add just the right amount of interest and excitement to an otherwise simple office space,” says Maggie Griffin, founder of Maggie Griffin Design. “Adding a pattern to the walls, a comfortable chair, and some stylish accessories can make all the difference.”

Whether you live in a small apartment or just want to make the most of your space, decorating the upstairs can greatly expand the potential of your home office. “Using vertical space above the desk creates a great visual balance between decor and function,” says Jen Feldman, founder of Jen Feldman Designs. “In this case, when not being used as a workplace, the table also serves as a side table as a piece of furniture in the room.”
Budget Friendly Modern Home Office Ideas To Steal In 2023
Once upon a time, all-white offices and light color palettes dominated. Today, however, Heather Fujikawa, owner and principal designer of House Sprucing, says that bright colors are increasing in home office spaces. “We want to be strong in 2023 to bring back the color,” she says. “Painting walls in dark colors is very trendy and we love this Benjamin Moore Hale Navy paint color, navy blue. It brings out the perfect shade of blue.”
If you like a particular color, don’t be afraid to decorate your entire office in it. “I’m excited to see some monochromatic offices,” says Susanna Simonpietri, creative director of Chango & Co. “We have many colorful rooms that explore color to its full potential.”
By 2023, designers expect the personal home office to increase. “One of the biggest trends we’re seeing is that people want to have their own office space right now,” says Britt Zunino, principal at Studio DB. “In the past, people shared an office at home and now that working from home is more sustainable, they want their own office instead of sharing a space.”
You don’t need to create a lot of space for your home office. “Continuing with the wallpaper trend, creating a beautiful space away from the kitchen makes it easy to send emails while you’re waiting to finish your dinner,” says Griffin.
Home Office Ideas: Interior Design, Decor, And Layout Tips
Similar to Griffin’s recommendation near the kitchen, Feldman says repurposing large closets can work for home offices, too. “This office space was renovated from a large unused closet,” she shares. “The simple transition of barn doors and a vibrant fabric accent created the perfect office space, like a little jewel box.”
You might think that a home office is defined by the desk that sits within it, but according to Simonpietri, that’s not the case. “We also started seeing a lot of requests from offices to ditch the electric desk,” she says. “Most executives these days prefer smaller desks and more room to interact on calls. I take this personally and design offices with more lounge space and clear floor space, abandoning the idea of large ‘old school chef’ desks.
However, if you like the idea of a power desk, Feldman says putting it front and center will make a big difference. “Space planning is the key to a great home office,” she says. This custom table was designed with a channel in the leg to clear wires from floor outlets for great looks and all the functionality. A small hole in the carpet allows the main wire to be attached and detached.
As much as you want to focus on an attractive and attractive aesthetic, there’s also something to be said for filling your home office with your own personality. “It’s very important to have home offices that speak to the people who live in the place and that never goes out of style,” says Fujikawa. “We love this office space that tells the story of the people who work there. The guitar touch, the corner of the sofa, the minimal art of the boys and the modern touches reflect the vision.
Home Office Ideas You’ll Love
Sometimes, choosing a darker color palette can make a home office look more comfortable and inviting. “There’s a reason theaters are dark: You can see the screen and the lights better,” says Feldman. “A mask in a dark and cozy library makes a great scene for work and beauty.”
While dark color palettes are soothing to some, others prefer bright spaces to encourage vitality. “For 2023 we’re looking at a cleaner approach to home offices,” says Fujikawa. “People want the home office to be a place of bright ideas, peace and shelter, so they can be in the best frame of mind for the task at hand. The design can be kept minimal, clean and bright, which is not only light but can also bring positivity that will help their work shine.
While the wallpaper makes an instant addition to a home office space, Zunino says it will also make a great backdrop if you go on a video call. “One big trend we’re seeing in home offices is the importance of Zoom in the past, where everyone is on video calls all the time,” he explains. That’s not to say that wallpaper is the only way to achieve a camera-friendly office. Rather, it’s about maintaining a clean, well-organized space.
For a classic home office environment, go for a more masculine color palette, silhouette and clothing. “These days a beautiful home office is a common place for everything from ‘working from home’ to evening chats,” says Griffin. “A pair of comfortable chairs and stylish shelves make the space feel less like work and more like play.”
Home Office Ideas That Will Inspire Productivity
Home offices should be all work and no play. “One must always remember to bring a combination of great design and functionality to where the home office goes,” says Fujikawa. “Having an intentional design and purpose for everything in the office goes a long way in creating a space for home and work life to thrive in this space.” In this office that she designed, Fujikawa made a point to prioritize built-in cabinets, which provide plenty of storage space, as well as cabinets that display and show personality.
