Home Office Furniture Ballard Design – This small room (technically a bedroom with a walk-in closet) shares a bathroom with Emma’s room, and this part of the house will eventually become the new master suite. But up until then, especially since Andrew started a new fully remote job, we needed a home office and this room was the perfect place for him! I knew I wanted to paint it brown and give it a rich, welcoming feel, so I asked Ballard Designs, a key source for our work, if they’d like to help us showcase Hutton’s new office collection. I was all in when I saw the woven rattan board! It is a perfect set for a home office as it is adjustable in size and shape. You can use different pieces such as tables, cabinets and storage units. We took some photos of the room to share, and the source of each post is at the end of the post!
Behind Brown Walls (Benjamin Moore Fairview Taupe) I knew I wanted to use this Paolo Moschino floral fabric from Kravet as brown, blue and cream. So I had custom cushions made inside and sturdy ballard velvet for the table and chairs. I have some window treatments coming up and they’ve been delayed (mostly couldn’t figure it out).

Andrew asked from a reclining chair, but now I’ve caught him on Zoom. OF TIME. It’s really comfortable. I want to escape and have time to read a magazine or read a book! The carvings against the dark brown wall look great.

Above the table I placed a large linen board and next to it a floating acrylic shelf for my blue and white vases.
We made a filing cabinet with just a lid on top to hide the printer and supplies. This is a great piece to keep your knife out of sight (and therefore out of mind).

Our living room and dining room are important because we plan to spend a lot of time in both. Also, when the pandemic calms down, we will have a lot of fun with friends and family. Before revealing, I wanted to walk you through the home decor and design process of how I arrived at the end result.
When we bought the house, the rooms were very neutral. Yellows, browns, whites, and grays everywhere were like a builder’s dream. Yes, me!” At the same time, he gave us a big blank canvas to work with.
The previous owners installed the wallpaper and I’m so thankful for them! I love decorating the house, especially wallpaper. We also added crown molding after we moved in and it turned out great!
As mentioned above, I’ve known Ballard for over ten years. In fact, one of my former bosses had a custom chair in his office. Overall, I like that this brand offers a lot of customization, from fabric to wood color.

Over the years I have received their catalogs and I immediately fell in love with their home decor and personalization products. When it came time to choose a partner for the living room and dining room, the answer was simple: Ballard!
Before the pandemic, Bob, our interior designer Amelia, and I visited Ballard’s showroom in nearby Oakbrook. Touching, feeling and seeing the products (and getting to know their team!) the trip was very worthwhile. Best of all, we set up an appointment with Jean, a member of the Ballard Design Solutions team.
Also, in case you don’t know, Ballard Designs is part of a larger home decor family. In fact, their other brands are Frontgate and Garnet Hill. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Frontgate! We ended up using them for backyard renovations and other home projects. Garnet Hill, on the other hand, has a variety of clothing, accessories and home products. The styling service option is completely free for clients and I highly recommend you give it a try. In fact, I’ve become familiar with this service and will be using it to decorate other spaces in my home. Where possible, Ballard’s Design Services team will meet you in the store to take a look around, discuss what you’re looking for and start planning the space. Jean even offered to come to our home and see the space for herself. I love it!

During our consultation, Jean explained that most of the Design Services team members are former/current interior designers and decorators. I was so impressed with her passion for great design and finding solutions to decorating challenges! I like that they have an interior designer option for clients.
They work with clients from start to finish and are completely open to working with your interior designer! I was a little nervous when I took Amelia to my first design shoot meeting. Luckily they welcome him with open arms. In fact, Jean said, they always love working with interior designers! All in all, that means more great design minds in the room!
During our design consultation, we explored the floor plans Amelia created for the living room and dining room. We also brought in some fabrics and swatches that we wanted to customize some of.

Jean walked us around the store, showing us some of our favorite pieces from the website and pointing out some extras we hadn’t thought of before.
From there we made fabric, cut and finish choices for the various pieces. These include our sofas, chairs and ottomans. In general, these elements are essential for living rooms and dining rooms. Amelia and Jean both guide me in making informed design decisions! I get overwhelmed with too many options. So I was grateful for their help in narrowing it down (especially the wood finish we chose).
