Screen Porch Decorating Ideas On A Budget

Screen Porch Decorating Ideas On A Budget – We have lived in our home for 4 years and absolutely love our covered porch. As a family, we spend more time there than in the living room. And when friends come over, we usually go out on the back porch to talk.

My husband works from home and uses the hallway shown as his side office. He had a lot to say about redesigning/refreshing our hall design and needed the hall to have a masculine, closed feel. And I think we succeeded! This space is warm and cozy with lots of wood tones. We spent under $400 on a new outdoor rug, 2 crate chairs, coffee table, speaker system, bamboo blinds and an updated ceiling fan for our screened patio.

We have had outdoor patios for almost 4 years. It fits the space well, gives us a spacious seat and still looks great so I wanted to design around it. Last year, I bought 9 new throw pillows from World Market at the end of the season at 75% off.

Our featured foyer is already running, but we wanted to make the space more personal with our style. The coffee table felt dark and heavy. And the carpet (originally from a thrift store) was very old and discolored.

Honestly, this spring, I’m very frustrated that I can’t update my porch. Luckily, we found a tasty bamboo coffee table for $9 at Goodwill in June. That’s the look I wanted for the space and it inspired me to continue our standout patio update!

If you find bamboo at a thrift store and it’s in bad shape, you can return it. Check out my friend Lora’s Craft Design post about upcycling bamboo and rattan. This is very useful!

If you give up, you don’t have a big budget for the project. Spend the day touring the local shops. Chances are you’ll be mistaken for inspiration!

At the same time my husband poured 5 bamboo blinds in the lobby. We live in an urban community with houses close together and shades that give us privacy when working or playing. And an added bonus: the blinds keep the awning cool during the day!

The bucket seats were found at another store. My husband found them at our local Habitat for $8 each. At first I thought to return the stripes, but think again – it will add a feeling of space in the cabin. I also added pillows to the chair to soften the plaid a bit.

We were shopping in early July and noticed that Target & Home Depot were liquidating their outdoor rugs. I chose a neutral brown rug with a trellis pattern. It looks like natural jute, but it is made of polypropylene to resist mold. I was happy to find a great outdoor rug for under $100!

We also added space technology. We installed a set of fiber optic night lights and synchronized them with the Wemo smart plug. My husband assembled the speaker system from the thrift store and synced it to the Echo Dotwe he already owns. So we can control our lights and music with smart technology, which I think is really cool!

We are very happy with how our featured area turned out. It’s like our second living room, protected from the elements but with an outdoor charm. If I buy new chairs, a coffee table, and a speaker system, we can easily make close to a thousand dollars on this project.

By buying some used furniture and buying a rug that was close to liquidation, we saved a few hundred dollars and spent $400 less. We hope this project inspires you to buy with purpose and budget for your next project! It doesn’t happen quickly and it doesn’t have to be expensive! How many times do you think I’ve sat on my porch without getting bitten by a mosquito, something spilled on the floor, or a dog scratching at the screen to attack an animal?

When we bought our 1960s Garrison colony with a covered porch add-on, I wanted to create a cozy outdoor room.

But we all know that life often gets in the way of our decorating dreams, so for almost a year my little room looked like this:

Last summer, I spruced up the small screen porch by dusting off the patio furniture and pillows from our first house, adding a rug, buying some accessories for my home, and making a quick garland.

At the time, I knew that the hall decorations I put on shoelaces were only a short-term solution.

My husband is the chef in our family and he eats out almost every night throughout the year. Having a gas grill on the covered porch comes in handy if you want to cook during a snowstorm or heavy rain.

It took some persuading, but my husband eventually agreed to move the grill outside, which required him to level part of the yard and make a smaller yard the size of the grill.

With no grill and a small budget to buy new patio furniture, I looked to a nearby dining room for inspiration.

My goal is to create a better design flow between the dining room and the lobby, which is connected by a sliding door.

The easiest way to find decorating inspiration and create unity between rooms is to pick something you like from one room and use it as a building block.

Our dining room rug has a variety of vibrant, rich colors including blues (home-long) and pale pink, so I challenged myself to create more outdoor space on a budget.

My husband replaced an old, rusty ceiling light with a nicer one for about $50 (mine is no longer for sale, but it’s the same) for a quick bedroom makeover.

Inexpensive lights attached to small Amri hooks provide extra light and atmosphere when we dine out (bonus: the kids love them).

I sold my old patio furniture and bought some cheap outdoor chairs and a small table from Target, and with the old paint, there’s still room for a small table.

Macrame made a comeback in the 1970s in a big way, and this macrame plant stand adds a nice texture while keeping the greenery unobstructed. Also, it’s a steal at just $10!

See that little tray on the side table? This is actually a Melissa & Doug dish! A quick little spray of lemongrass makes it a colorful addition to the hall.

The metal wall art has been in our basement for years, and I originally bought it at Pier 1 to hang on our first floor over a decade ago. Now they finally looked at the house on the porch!

The blue indoor and outdoor rug is in our dining room, but our dog always sleeps on it! I almost threw it away, but the washing machine cleaned it perfectly and now it’s as good as new!

This change has not yet been made. Finally, I want to paint the floors and doors, change the door hardware, and add beaded boards to the ceiling.
