Small Home Decorating Ideas On A Budget – As you know, I have been decorating our living room lately. Today I want to show you some of the changes I’ve made and share some budget decorating tips I use when trying to stretch my small budget.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve made a lot of decorating mistakes, but one thing I’m good at is saving money.
Small Home Decorating Ideas On A Budget
The last time I blogged about this room was last May (in a very embarrassing post) and a lot has changed since then. But for fun, let’s go back to the beginning and remember what the living room looked like the day we first moved in.
Budget Friendly Small Front Porch Decorating Ideas • Craving Some Creativity
It’s basically a blank canvas. It’s changed about a million times since then, and I’m sure it will change again soon.
Only sofa, ottoman and TV were bought in this room. The rest are things I’ve picked up from thrift stores over the past few years.
As I mentioned in my joke last week, I made colorful fabric pillows and sprinkled gold on the store pallets.
Almost every room in the house has Jesse’s musical gear (he’s not good at keyboards), but I think his guitar is the perfect decorative accessory. He didn’t quite understand, but he was happy that I kept taking pictures of his favorite guitar.

Some old thrift store tables are painted a soft white (furniture painting tips here ), and I found some white and blue gingerbread ones at the thrift store for about $7.
I don’t think the average person would be thrilled with this discovery, but trust me, my thrifty little heart is excited. He didn’t know what to do.
To be honest, no, I don’t have flowers in my house every day. Jess always knows it’s time to write a blog post when I bring home $3 worth of flowers from the grocery store.
Anyway: I bought that little square clear vase at the Dollar Tree for a dollar. I’ve seen it elsewhere for $5-10.
Multipurpose Home Office Ideas That Are Budget Friendly
I think I spent a total of $30 on the gallery wall, which seems like a lot of money since a new frame is usually $20.
But i will. next week. Now let’s give him a friendly wave and continue our work.
While the metal mix used to drive me crazy, it quickly became something I loved. For the gallery walls I used silver and gold frames. I found some modern silver frames on clearance at Target and picked up the rest at thrift stores.
I did some abstract pieces with blue and green paint as well as the amazing gold leaf paint I used here.
Rental Friendly Decorating Ideas (that Are Temporary!)
Also did a large piece of abstract art which was very easy to do but ended up being my favourite.
I mounted the item in a $2 thrift store frame and painted the rug white. It starts out cloudy orange, but that’s easy to fix.
Goes well with some thrift store finds… a botanical print (reframed in a modern frame), a metal bark print (kept in the original frame) and a gorgeous mirror.
I found it at a thrift store a few weeks ago for $4 (I looked it up on Instagram) and I almost passed out when I saw it.
Apartment Decor Ideas For Small Spaces That Wow
And you think I’m a boy. You can also see the fingerprints of my ginger and peel bowls that I marked nearby.
It was called “Jobs for Horse Lovers” and gave me 7 great pictures of horses and 700 questions.
As for the mirrors on the gallery walls, they were also shop bought. In fact, I couldn’t find and release them all at once. I gave them a quick gold spray paint before adding them to the gallery wall (affiliate link) because they looked a little antique at first.
Now that you’ve seen the last living room update that totaled $100, let’s talk about some of the ways I saved money.
Coastal Beach Style Decor On A Budget
The key is to use a little of the old and a little of the new. Find some great new pieces and fill in the gaps with what you’ve collected over time. In my experience, most of these gaps can be filled with thrift store finds if you’re willing to put in the effort to find them.
Over the years, I’ve been to almost every store in town. Most of them are not very good. Some of them are amazing. I always check out the awesome stuff because it’s a first-come, first-served situation. My best tips can be found here. I also do a lot of scouting on Craigslist ( here are some tips ) and spend several weekends in the summer at local garage sales and estate sales.
Once you are able to go beyond the current color of the item, your world of small decorations will change. Once you understand that form matters, the possibilities are endless. You can rub, polish, paint, stain or spray whenever you want. (Here are some great spray painting tips to get you started.)
Even if you paint the shop furniture, the equipment often wears out. The easiest way to update it is to replace the entire hardware or paint it in a nicer color. Either way, it makes a big difference.
Savvy Tips For Decorating A Small Space On A Budget
I don’t care how unskilled you think you are. I guarantee you can create abstract art. Plus, if you put it in a stunning shot, it looks like a million bucks. I know this because about 75% of my art is really bad, and if I put it in a matte frame, Jesse usually thinks I bought it. fact. 🙂
I’ve run into hoarding situations a few times over the years. Over time, I realized that I don’t need to buy a small item that I love just because it’s a dollar. I learned the importance of waiting for those truly great revelations.
My trick is to ask myself if I will still be in love ten years from now. If I have to answer, I have to make a decision.
The great thing about decorating on a budget is that it gives you a lot of room to use however you want. It’s not the end of the world if you only paid $50 for that closet, and even if you ruin it by dyeing it pink because you have wild hair.
Small Bedroom Decorating Ideas From Designers
In my own little journey, I’ve found that pushing boundaries can lead to creativity. When you don’t run out (insert your favorite store) and spend thousands of dollars on new things, you’re forced to think outside the box. When I stopped being ashamed of it and really accepted that I did other things, my world lit up. Update your home with these low-budget, effective home decorating ideas and turn it into a space you love!
When it comes to updating and decorating my home, I talk about low-budget projects and affordable decor that make the biggest difference. Why spend a lot of money on updating and decorating your home when you spend less on building it?
Today I thought it would be helpful to share some of my favorite home decorating ideas that can make a big impact with less money. Whether it’s a complete room renovation or a quick room upgrade, you don’t have to break the bank to create a beautiful home you love.
Some of these highly effective budget decorating ideas involve DIY, but I promise they’re totally doable and worth the effort.
Small Entryway Ideas For A Grand Entrance, No Matter The Size
Custom curtains can quickly get out of your budget, but there are ways to achieve a less custom look. Buying curtains from more affordable stores like HomeGoods, IKEA, and Overstock is a great alternative to more expensive options. I have white curtains from IKEA and green curtains from Overstock that I love and highly recommend.
Looking for more exposure? Try painting your interior windows dark gray or black (mine is ironstone) and add bamboo shades.
Decorating Tip: Hang the curtains midway between the top of the curtain and the base of the ceiling (or crown molding) with the edge of the curtain wide enough to go over the side of the window.
I love using accent walls to add drama. Good options are to redecorate a hallway, add bold colored wallpaper to a bedroom or create a wooden feature wall. Are you renting? Removable or temporary wallpaper is a great way to update your walls without a long-term investment.
Small Apartment Decorating Ideas On A Budget
Have you considered painting your ceiling? Ceilings are a great place to have fun with color or wallpaper.
Board-to-board molding and sconces are my favorite treatments for adding affordable, dramatic style to a room.
I have nothing against big box stores, but vintage shopping is the right thing to do
