Small Home Office Furniture – Learn how to create this DIY home office desk system with free kits and a video tutorial from Shanty2Chic!
I absolutely love organizing my office! I shared small desk plans a few weeks ago, and today we’re sharing free plans and video tutorials for home office desk towers! With so much work at home due to illness, I have found a real need for my workspace with more space for my laptop and tools. I decided to turn my dining room into a space where I could have an office outside and Jed could do his maintenance inside. We don’t use a formal dining room and there is plenty of room! This is great for our family! I’m so excited to show you how these things turned out. Watch the video below. You can find the free printable at the bottom of this post and follow the step-by-step instructions below!

I love my new office setup! Look how beautiful the computer desk tower is! The best thing about this design is that it is modular! Each piece is built differently to best suit your space. If you have less space, you can build a table with only one column or table. The towers can even be gassed!

Our friends at Purebond Plywood recently told us about Ana White’s new website called Shelf Help! They asked us to test it for a project and we were very impressed with the results. Of course, you will use an assistant editor to create your perfect piece. They cut the plywood to size, glue it as needed and ship it to your door. This eliminates the need to wait and cut the plywood, and all the cutting is done for you. It saves a lot of time because it is delivered to your door and allows you to build with fewer tools. We found this to be a huge time saver for this project. You can see the homepage here!
The first step in building this home office desk is to build the body of the columns. First, build the bookcase body. It is made of 3/4″ thick Purebond plywood. Wrap each piece of paper around the front edges to ensure a good seal, but this is optional. Add 3/4″ pocket holes to the 6 shelf boards. Also add 3/4″ pocket holes to the bottom of both panels. We used our Kreg Jig 720PRO to make these pocket holes. We love this new pocket hole jig!
This is a big step up from the previous Kreg Jig K4 model. You can find it on Amazon!
Install the slide rails before installing the shelves. They sit 25 inches from the bottom of both long pieces. Installation is easier at this stage than assembling the shelf.

Before installing the shelves, attach the bottom part to the pocket holes of the long side boards.
Fix the shelves inside with wood glue and mark the pocket holes 1.25. Attach each shelf to one side first. We started from the bottom shelf and worked our way up.
Once all the shelf pieces are attached to one side, move the material over and place it on the other long side. Attach the shelf to the base. Place the pocket holes horizontally in the top wooden shelf to hide them when the piece is finished. Make sure the pocket holes on the longboards are facing inwards so they are also hidden.
Now the bookshelf is ready for decoration. There are 1×3 boards outside. The next part is attached to the cut pieces and the plywood using wood glue and 1.25″ nails. We used our Ryobi 18g Cordless Brad Nailer for this part. It’s our favorite nail gun to use when building! It’s so easy to use and no cord is needed, you can find from here.

The frame used was 1/2″ plywood cut into 4″ wide strips. Cut 4 pieces of paper to size and make a frame using wood glue and 1.25″ nails on the corners of the long boards and inside the short boards. Make sure all sides and top and bottom are flat.
The bottom of the box is cut from 1/4″ plywood. Cut the piece to size and attach to the frame using wood glue and 1.25″ brad nails or tacks. Clamps are usually the better choice when using this kind of thin plywood.
The box shape is made from 1/4″ plywood and 1.5″ wide shipboard. These craft boards are 1/2″ thick, but you can use any thickness. First, cut the long pieces and attach them to the mold using glue. 5/8″ wood and iron nails. Next, cut short pieces of paper and attach them in the same way. After all the trim is installed, you can install it
The box is shaped using wood glue and nails. We like to fit the skis and skates first, then fit the features for the best fit.

Make the next cabinet door. The door frame is made of 1×3 boards. Add 3/4″ pocket holes to the ends of the two short boards. Then attach to the longer boards with wood glue and mark the 1.25″ holes. I have added the dimensions of the door here, but you have to measure them yourself. The leaves before cutting will give you the best.
The door frame is 1/4″ plywood. Cut to size and attach to the back of the door frame with wood glue and 5/8″ brad nails or nails. At this point you can attach the door to the cabinet or add your own finish first.
I used my Glowforge Pro to create the pattern for both the door and the box shape. It is 1/4 inch Purebond plywood and is beautifully carved with a Glowforge machine. I ran each piece through the machine individually, then gave each piece a coat of tin. I used Varthane Willow Gray mixed with Varthane Golden Oak for this. I love the door details! The last step before adding the finish is to attach the back of the plywood, this is 1/4″ plywood. Attach the plywood to the back and inside of the shelves using wood glue and glue. A good tip is to mark where the shelves are on the back of the 1×3 frame so your studs determine , how deep to place.

The color chosen for the walls is my favorite Sherwin-Williams Pure White. I gave 2 coats for a satin finish.
I found my carry case on Amazon. You can find them here. I also found metal door handles on Amazon! I love them and they are so cheap, look great and are free!
Now it’s all over! I love my new home office and especially my desk and all the storage…it’s awesome! These small home office ideas prove that you don’t need a large space to have a great workspace.

Small Office Ideas
Having a dedicated workspace makes it easier to keep family distractions away so you can focus on work. Sure, it’s nice to have a big room with lots of space, but that’s not an option for most of us.
Fortunately, whether you live in a small apartment, a cramped apartment, or a small house, you can find work-from-home options. All it takes is a little know-how and a plan to create a home office you’ll love.
You don’t have to be an interior designer to realize these small office ideas. The key is to adjust the area to what you want and need for the product.
For example, adjustable standing desks are perfect for any office. They are ergonomic, allowing you to switch between sitting and standing.

No matter how limited your space is, choose a good office chair to make those long work days easier. Personal details such as a library wall, a bookshelf or a cabinet are the icing on the cake. Don’t forget desk accessories like phone holders and cable stacks to save space. A litter box is also mandatory.
