While our master bedroom is nowhere near furnished yet, I thought it would be a good time to share an update on its current state compared to how it used to look. We still have a few things to replace with more matching furniture (like my plastic sock drawer hidden behind a slanted mirror, 2 nightstands, and a mismatched dresser not pictured), but I’m very happy with how it looks now.

I lived with my parents until I was 4 and moved into June’s parents’ house where we lived in a small bedroom with a huge bed for 2 years, so I really wanted our master bedroom to be polished and big. feelings.

This room has a narrow window and a wide sliding glass door to the patio, both with old vertical blinds that were missing and falling apart. We decided to remove them and install 2 pairs of full length curtains to give the illusion that they both have width. As the sheer curtains diffuse the light, you can’t even tell that the window is significantly smaller than the sliding door.

I think we would definitely see zero light leakage if I had room blackout curtains that wrap around the edges, but I wanted to keep costs low and get a simple double curtain that could hold both blackout curtains and $12 sheer shades. curtains. for them. Another Amazon score: $25 double curtain rods. The ends are plastic, but these rods don’t bend and hold these heavy curtains well, so I’m impressed.
Like the rest of the house, the walls and ceiling of this room were painted white. As with our living room and most of the house, we stuck with Benjamin Moore’s Barren Plains, but color matched Behr’s Premium Plus Ultra paint to save a lot of money. If you follow me on Instagram, you may remember how I felt about this color in my living room, which was a little purple on cloudy days, but in this room, because of the light from the window, it looks like a real gray. I find it a really soothing color that goes well with my neutral furniture and decor.
I originally wanted 4 frames for the picture above the bed, but since I was shopping at Homegoods, I only found 3 matching white frames. I think I’ll grow it out eventually, but for now I think they still look great. I don’t have the exact link for these Mikasa picture frames, but you can get a similar 4-pack on Amazon for much cheaper (I bought mine for $8.99 each for 3).
I also wanted bigger nightstand mirrors, but I found these $23 door mirrors on a whim at Walmart and couldn’t pass them up. The frame is made of artificial gray wood and its texture resembles real wood grain.

Our bedside tables are actually living room tables that I inherited from my mom and I haven’t made it a priority to replace them with better tables yet. I want nightstands with drawers to keep things organized, books, magazines, medicine, etc. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about mine, so here’s a link to the exact questions for my room.
I wanted to make a simple design (and price) for the bedside lamps. I really didn’t want bedside lamps to be “loud” and considering they can be expensive, I just couldn’t justify paying that much for them. Questions about my bed frame and I have to say it’s probably my favorite purchase in my entire bedroom. It was only $277 for the king, and that’s not just for the headboard, but for the entire bed frame and slats. I think my only gripe is that the headboard is a little lower than I’d prefer, but that’s only because our mattress is really thick. It will rise on a thinner mattress. If you are a dog owner, you probably know what these steps are for. We have a dachshund and no matter what we do he always jumps out of bed while we are sleeping. Linens can be incredibly expensive, so I tried to keep costs as low as possible. Since we live in the desert, I was able to buy a cheaper, thinner comforter, but since it’s so hot here, I know I should have a cotton sheet. You may hear that the higher the thread count the better, but frankly anything higher than 300-400 TC is really impractical in hot weather and won’t allow air to circulate through the fabric. I did a lot of research on affordable quality cotton sheets and found this set of 300 TC sheets for $55.99 at JC Penney with a coupon down to $51.71 plus tax. Trust me, if you need to change your linens for summer, this is the way to go. Not only are they 100% cotton, they are also percale cotton, the same crisp linen you find in hotels. They stretch more than satin cotton sheets, but that’s only because of the texture; This type of weave allows air to circulate through the fabric more than satin. So while satin is silkier and won’t wrinkle, percale is what you want if you want to stay cool at night. And it’s getting harder and harder to find 100% cotton percale sheets at this low price, so be sure to grab them!

For the white comforter and pillows, I got this set. It’s not 100% cotton or percale, but I realized we don’t really use white pillows or curtains in the summer, so it wasn’t really necessary. Also, I purchased this gray comforter set to add a little gray to the bed.
