How To Decorate Master Bedroom On Budget – Often, the master bedroom is a neglected, undecorated, dirty and cramped space that we close the door to every time friends or family come to visit.
This is the last item on our decorating list; And people spend years sleeping and waking up in a restless, divided, or unstable state because tackling this project is low on the list of priorities.
How To Decorate Master Bedroom On Budget
I totally understand that we are all busy and that money is really endless. But I believe that creating a welcoming and harmonious bedroom that you love to live in doesn’t have to be as time-consuming or expensive as you might think.

Last fall, we tackled our bedroom and walk-in closet as part of the One Room Challenge and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Although it’s been eight months since I revealed my master bedroom makeover last fall, and I have to tell you, I still love this post. A bright, airy and beachy feel during the summer months!
I have to admit we made some improvements to our master bedroom renovation; All of these were free transitions.
The great thing is that we finally got rid of the TV! After a few weeks of not using it because the cable wouldn’t reach its new home; We realized we don’t really need it! We inspired some art to create an entire gallery wall above the dresser and left the walls on the other side of the window open; And add a long high bench at the foot of the bed.
So, this room is indeed a little wet and changing; But overall we are very happy with the design. And, when I look back on these changes I realize that we did it while staying within a reasonable budget. Today I’m sharing my best tips for creating a master bedroom you love on a budget! I hope they encourage you to come in and give your website a makeover you’ll love too.
Of The Best Relaxing Master Bedroom Ideas
The color of your room goes a long way in creating a distinct feel for your space; And perhaps one of the shortest and most effective ways to create a new look. Our bedroom was painted a nice, neutral, blue color by the previous owners. But I wanted light, bright and a breath of the ocean so we went with white on the feature wall and a bright aqua color called Seafoam from Benjamin Moore.
When we started decorating our bedroom after we moved into this house I knew I wanted some kind of wall behind the bed. At the time, we had a DIY raised board with the right pattern and color, so we went with white wood and a floor-to-ceiling feature wall. I think adding some sort of paneling behind the bed helps to anchor the bed and make that wall the real focus of the room.
I knew I wanted to add a chic or fun touch to my bedroom and the biggest change to our bedroom was adding a new headboard and two glam side tables with a neutral headboard. Instead of finding high-end items like decorative headboards or these beautiful mirrored dressers at Pottery Barn, I shopped online and shopped at stores like Wayfair, Overstock, and Joes and Maine. I found our headboard tables and nightstands (like these) online for a great price. Keep an eye out for online sales of pieces you want to buy new.
I often use white bedding (like this blanket) and add interest with pillows or throws. This summer I added a bright, cheery quilt cover under the bed with matching shams. I got it on sale, so it was a great value and added a lot of impact for a small cost.
A $500, $1000 And $2000 Bedroom Makeover! Plus, A Fresh Take On
The white square pillows are all from Ikea and a pillow cover is under $5. You can make your own beautiful envelope pillows from fabric you already have or can find at a great price; I shared a great tutorial on how to make your own pillow covers here. You can also sew your long lumbar pillows to the front of the bed; I love the pillow forms from Ikea.
You don’t have to go out and buy everything new to give your room a new look. Look around at what you have and see if you can get a makeover on the cheap. We kept our old coat and redecorated it with white chalk paint; And it fits in our new place.
I made my own curtains to save money because I couldn’t find cheap (or see-through) fabrics.
We also DIYed a raised bench that now sits at the end of the bed – it was originally made from an old coffee table that we cut to size, painted and upholstered in my favorite fabric. I also took the hanging light in my garage and gave it a makeover with gold paint. Spray paint is always your friend when trying to create a beautiful room on a budget.

We’re also giving our classic, basic, cheap mirror a major makeover with trim and metallic paint.
My favorite thing in the room would be the artwork. I wanted a high-end look but didn’t want to order expensive pre-made pieces. I ordered all the frames from Ikea, then I ordered these rugs from Amazon. The wide mats give the 8×10 pieces I ordered from Minted a crisp and high-quality finish at a very low cost. You can download and print your own free printable art or print your own large photos and frame them on these wide mats to create a beautiful and affordable display.
Shop thrift stores, garage sales, discount decor stores (Homesense is my favorite – like Homegoods in the US), or online at places like Wayfair or Overstock to find something that matches your look. Or better? Buy a house!! Look around your house for items that will work with your new room decor and rearrange what you already have.
One area of our room that I did splurge on was an area rug – and by splurge, I mean it retails for $289 for a 9×12 size, so it still makes sense. I love this huge vintage painted rug, and I know it will be the perfect addition to our space to give it a cohesive feel and finish.

I think that although you decorate most of the room to improve with a reasonable budget, it would be better to spend a little money on one important part. That said, these types of ropes are available in all price ranges if you want to stick to a certain budget (like this one, here, that we recently ordered for our living room).
I hope you’re inspired to create your dream bedroom on a budget and enjoy waking up to a beautiful, fresh space every morning!

Although our master bedroom hasn’t been decorated yet, I thought it was a good time to share some details about its current state compared to how it was. It used to look like this. We still have a few things that need to be replaced with more appropriate furniture (like my plastic sock sink hidden behind the tilting mirror, 2 tables that could be next to the bed and some invisible clothing), but I Happy with how it looks now!

I’m sure you can understand how exciting it is to finally have your own “master bedroom”, right? Adult Now!” vibe
Don’t forget – this is what the room looked like before we moved in. Some paint and thoughtful design can open up and brighten a space!
